All you have to do to enter the contest is to leave us a comment before midnight this Thursday (Jan 14th) telling us what one of YOUR favorite reads was in 2009.
We'll pick a winner and announce it on Friday.
That just made Monday worth it right there.

I am not sure if I could read this again or not. Happy thoughts is my 2010 mantra. However, I could easily give this as a gift and would loved to win.
My favorite read this year was also The Road... But since you're probably hoping to get a list of books you haven't read, I would suggest In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick. It was the story that inspired Melville's Moby Dick.
Two of my favorite reads in 2009 were Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, and Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynn Truss. You just can't beat a book on punctuation.
I loved East of Eden by John Steinbeck. Another favorite read this past year was Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. I'm kind of a sucker for classics. Check out my blog for my top ten reads of 2010 :) (bittersweetpress.blogspot)
I really want to read The Road!
Technically, I read the Hunger Games on Jan 1, 2010, but I can't stopping thinking about it. If I have to pick one from 2009 I guess I might pick Where the River Ends by Charles Martin. His books are amazing!
What a cool idea, ladies! My favorite for 2009 has to be The Help. Loved, loved, loved this book. I am thinking it will end up on my lifetime favorites list. I really don't like to re-read books, but I will definitely be reading this again!
How ironic, I just finished reading East of Eden by John Steinbeck and thought yesterday that I would definitely comment on this book. By far my top book of 2010. It was a wonderful book, a classic. By the end you have a love / hate relationship with the characters and become fascinated with the choices they make and their consequential struggle to choose good over evil. Interesting parallels and references to the bible also.
My favorite book I read last year is not a classic by any stretch of the imagination, but I loved it nonetheless. It's Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah.
"World Without End" by Ken Follett. 1000+ pages -- and I was still sad when it ended!
I am sad to say that I can't remember any novel that I read in
'09 that I can recommend, but it has been a long year so maybe I just forgot. The book that I most enjoyed in '09 was not a novel but was Timothy Keller's "The Prodigal God". It was very convicting and life changing.
I wrote out a list of the other bloggers favorites and maybe I will find some good readings in '10
best book of 2009 was redeeming love by francine rivers. it's an inspiring classic that i love to read every couple years, and always leaves me feeling grateful for God. it's that simple. my sister, lisa, has told me a lot about the book, the road, and i was actually thinking of looking for it on amazon when i got the email about your giveaway! so i'd love to win so i can share in the tragic love of a father and son.
Funny I am leaving a comment, because I was just talking to some friends at lunch about one of the best books I've read this past year. It's Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China by Jung Chang. It's a memior written by Jung Chang of three generations of women (her grandmother, mother, and herself). She chronicles their stories beginning with her grandmother who lived under the emporer to her own life under Mao. It's long, but so well worth it, and opened my eyes to the history of China, as well as the power of uninhibited government.
Before I even saw your choice, I thought, hands down, The Road was the absolute best book I read last year. I finished it quite early in the year and am STILL thinking about it!
The Kite Runner. hands down.
How are you supposed to pick a winner based just on people responding? Are we supposed to be witty? Are you drawing names? I can't be expected to be witty on command. Maybe you can pick me because I CLEARLY picked the most awesome book ever.
Also, as Greg said, maybe you are looking for books you haven't read, in which case I recommend Hosseini's other novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns. Although I consider Kite Runner to be superior, it's absolutely worth the read.
I love your blog. It is very creative and it is neat to see three friends working together on a project like this. My favorite book of 2009 was The Five Love Languages of Teenagers by Gary Chapman. It is probably not a book most of you would need to read yet but with a 14 and 11 year old it helped me tremendously.
I cannot remember what books I read in 2009. Sad, but true. So CLEARLY, I should win this book. Choose me out of pity for my poor, unread soul!
Oh, I have heard that book is great, so you should definitely give it to me :) My favorite read from 2009 was, as cliche as it sounds, the anthology of travel writing I read - The Conde Nast Traveler Book of Unforgettable Journeys. It's a collection of great writing from Conde Nast Traveler magazine that will transport you everywhere from Thailand, to Barcelona, to Africa, to Jordan. It's a great read not only for travel lovers, but also for readers who enjoy great writing.
I read Eat Pray Love in 2009 and absolutely loved it!
I think this will make it by deadline, although I'm on the other side of the world and it's 8:42 Friday morning the 15th where I am.
2009 best reads:
Non-fiction: I finally got my hands on a copy of "City of Joy" by Dominique LaPierre. It's intense. I highly recommend it. Fiction: "Catching Fire". Read it in one day. Can't wait for the next book in the series! I was also introduced to Ted Dekker books this year (his trilogy "Black", "Red", and "White"). Good writing and strong redemptive analogies.
